Biruwa’s mission has always

been to promote entrepreneurship in Nepal. We know Nepal lacks an entrepreneurial ecosystem. Parents do not encourage their children to become entrepreneurs and
teachers guide students to a safer career options. Clearly, our culture avoids risk taking even in business, an entrepreneur is perceived negatively and profit making is often considered unethical.

Even when an entrepreneur rises above all these limitations, they face the challenge of securing funding to launch their venture. Banks do not provide

loans to those who do not already have property to put as collateral. Other sources of funding are few. Biruwa Ventures Pvt. Ltd. in collaboration with other partners is launching Udhyami Seed Fund Challenge 2012 to provide seed funding and other necessary business support services to help transform the idea into a real business.

Udhyami Seed Fund Challenge 2012 will have the following format:

  Around 10 teams will be selected through an interview process, where we will judge whether the team or entrepreneur is capable to run a business.

• Mentor: The selected teams will go through a rigorous 8 day mentoring period spread over one month. This mentoring period will not only help the teams develop a better business plan but will also provide an opportunity for the teams to network with some of the top entrepreneurs in the country.
• Pitch: At the end of the mentoring period, 10 teams will pitch among an internal panel of judges composed of USF’s team and mentors. Five teams will be selected to present in the final Demo Day on November 17th.
• Invest: The top three teams will receive an investment guarantee of up to Rs. 500,000 based on the team’s engagement during the mentoring period and their performance during the Demo Day pitch.
• Support: The winning teams and the other finalists will continue to get support from Udhyami Seed Fund and its partners for the next 12 months.
